Shanthi Gramabivrudhi Kendra started in the year 1988, staying at Shanthipura and rendering the service in the surrounding villages of Padukote. In year 1995, two Sisters started living in Padukote village in one of the community hall just like the people in the village with a view of identifying with the people and to know their situation from very close.

Economic, social and political empowerment was the main objective of social activity that was focused simultaneously in Padukote and surrounding villages. Conscientization of social realities through street plays, folk songs, trainings on awareness building were the initial programmes organized. Special attention was paid to the women and children who usually fall prey to all social evils and male domination. Under women’s organization several trainings on self help groups were organized. These women trained with an aim of making village leaders by imparting knowledge and skill training in agriculture related things, community health and hygiene, herbal medicine and home remedies for simple sicknesses, income generating skills, legal awareness’, Government facilities, Bank loans, accounting systems etc. These leaders work as agents of building up their economic stability by helping and encouraging savings in the family and the families of neighbourhood.
