The first establishment of the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters outside India under Mysore Province in Africa at Machakos diocese in Kenya on February 6, 2012 evidences the fact of the first step in crossing the Indian Ocean became a memorable day for Mysore Province.

Srs Wilma Rego, Reshma D’Souza and Cecilia D’Souza were the pioneers at Assisi Convent Machakos. Sisters are involved in education apostolate at Pope Paul Junior Seminary Kataloni and health apostolate at Bishop Kioko Hospital Machakos. Sisters’ presence in the school and hospital has made a great impact on people and the students.

In the year 2013 a new batch of Sisters namely Srs. Lona Pinto, Sushma Castalino & Renita Claudiet arrived to Kenya to replace Srs. Reshma D Souza & Wilma Rego and Sr. Renita to Angela Convent Kithimani respectively. In the year 2014 one more member was added to the community namely Sr. Avitha Mascarenhas to work at Bishop Kioko hospital as a nurse. There was a continuous request for the Sisters to work in the accounts section at Bishop Kioko hospital. The request was accepted by the Provincial team and Sr. Santhan Rodrigues was added to the community in the year 2015 to work at Bishop Kioko Hospital as an Accountant.

Sisters are actively involved in the health, education and pastoral apostolate. Sunday is the busy day for each one is involved in conducting Sunday service and teaching catechism at two schools and Machakos University. They also take care of the seminary chapel and Katoloni church doing sacristy work, washing church linen and maintaining the cleanliness of the church.
