Molakalmuru is one of the six talukas of Chitradurga District. It is 100 Kilometres to the south of the Chitradurga District headquarters-Bellary. Molakalmuru is within the jurisdiction of Shimoga Diocese. Dr Isaac Lobo the Bishop of the Diocese, having known the life and mission of the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters in rural areas, invited them to reach out to people of Molakalmuru especially by way of evangelization.
Consented by Rev Sr Doreen D Souza Superior General Srs Lilly Pushpa and Sunitha Monis were accompanied by Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo and Fr Clarence D Souza of Shimoga Diocese to Molakalmuru on June 4, 2005. They were welcomed by Fr Alphonse Lobo, the parish priest of Blessed Joseph Vaz Church, Molakalmuru.
Initially the Sisters lived in a rented house and engaged themselves into forming groups of children and women. Coaching classes to school going children in different groups and awareness programmes on social issues were the activities of the time. The qualified social worker with MSW was the strength to pave the way for further developmental activities.
On March 31, 2008 Divya Kripa the new Convent building was inaugurated by Sr Doreen D Souza, the Superior General and was blessed by Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Shimoga. From then onwards the administration of the house has been entrusted to the Mysore Province.
The structure of a convent cum social work Centre came as a blessing for the Sisters to intensify developmental works to children, women and dropout youth. In addition to developmental work Sisters join hands in the pastoral apostolate and education administered by the Diocesan education society.
