Molakalmuru is one of the most backward taluks of Chitradurga district in Shimoga Diocese. People of the place are depending upon agriculture for their sustenance. But this place has very scanty rain. There are no facilities for irrigation. People also go from place to place as migrants in search of work. Livelihood is the challenge for the people. Education is very poor in this taluk. Development is not in progress therefore this taluk has become totally backward in all the areas. Since education is very low early marriages are also on rise. People lack the basic facilities.

Sisters from Mysuru Province arrived to this place with the hope of bringing light in the lives of these people, through education and empowerment of women and girls.  In the initial days Sisters stayed in a rented house and started coaching classes for the children. Children’s groups were formed and women self-help groups are   being formed in order to make the people learn about the concept of saving of money for economic stability.   In the process, activities were extended to the Grampanchayaths and the villages by starting project on vocational skill training for the dropout youth where most of them today developed their own way of earning their livelihood. Various programs like awareness to school and college students, anganawadi teachers, women and other unorganized sectors, on leadership and issue based program on gender equality, human rights are organised in collaboration with other organizations. Coaching classes are conducted in the Centre and in one of the villages where 80 children are getting the benefits of it.
