Maria Vidya Nivas came into existence due to the arising need to set apart a house for the student candidates as well as student Sisters. A rise in the number of candidates to the Congregation was added reason for this initiative. Accordingly, on August 15, 1994, a readymade house and an adjacent vacant site were bought at Udayagiri, from the Missionaries of Charity Brothers. Corresponding to its functioning it was named Maria Vidya Nivas, and Sr. Irene Leena Pais and late Sr. Joyceline D’Souza were the pioneers.

It was canonically erected as a community, on December 13, 2001 by Sr. Jyothi Fernandes, the then Provincial Superior of Mysuru Province. From June 1, 2013 the student candidate’s formation has been shifted to Sacred Heart students’ home, Madanthyar in the diocese of Mangalore. From June 2013 to May 2016 it housed Chethana Counseling Centre, and Sr. Olinda Sequeira carried on her Counseling activity, which is now shifted to Maria Niketan, Bogadi.

The Sisters actively participate in the liturgical and apostolic activities of the parish church, like catechizing, family visits, youth animation, animating the women cell, pastoral activities, attending the ward prayers in the families. They also reach out to the inmates at Navajeevan Niketan, a destitute home run by the Missionaries of Charity Brothers and Home for the Aged run by the Little Sisters of the Poor at Gandhinagar.
