Get Together of the Sisters Involved in Social Development and Health Apostate

Mysore Province had the privilege and honour of hosting the get together of the Sisters involved in Social Development and Health Apostate at Congregation level was held on 23 November 2018 at St Mary’s Community Health Centre H D Kote, Mysuru having the theme Empowering Adolescents: A Prophetic Call for Launching Deeper.

Rev Sr Susheela Sequeira, Superior General the president of the day in her inaugural address appreciated the dedicated and committed service of the Sisters in the field of social and health apostolate and invited them to continue the same work by reading the signs of the time, updating oneself with the needed knowledge and information to make their services more effective and fruitful.

The resource persons Dr Sr Hilda Rita Lobo and Rev Fr Veeresh Moras enlightened the gathering with their expertise on the theme. That was followed by Province wise group discussion. The input sessions and the group discussion were geared towards the empowerment of teenagers. The topics have impressed the gathering and inspired them: To accompany the youth, to create space in schools and within their own communities, to provide a platform to build self confidence by acquiring life skills, availing guidance and counseling when they come across with day today problems.

Gathering such as this one was held for the first time in the Congregation. There were nearly 120 Sisters from the whole Congregation. It was possible because of the direction of Rev Sr Susheela Sequeira Superior General and planning and execution by Rev. Srs Milly Fernandes and Lydia Serrao the coordinator of Socio-health development with the assistance of the core group.

It was a wonderful experience of sharing of the responsibilities of the day by all the Provinces. A special thanks to the Superior Sr Mary Mendonca and the Sisters of Sanjeevini and the Communities of St Philomena’s, St Mary’s and Christa Raj Convent, Naganahalli for their fabulous hospitality.

All the Provincial Superiors with their team members were an encourage presence.

For the validity function concluding words were expressed by Sr Annie MA the vice Provincial of Mysore Province in return Superior General and her team honoured her in the absence of Provincial Superior. Golden Jubilee of Shanthi Higher Primary School Shanthipura

Shanthi Higher Primary School Celebrated its golden jubilee on 17 November 2018. Rev Sr Susheela Sequeira, Superior General, Rev Sr Lilly Pinto, Secretary UFES, Rev Sr Apoline Cordeiro, Provincial Superior, Rev Sr Lilly Rodrigues, Deputy Secretary, Block Education Officer and local political Leaders were the dignitaries of the day. A beautiful programme was put up. The Past Headmistresses of the School were honoured. Sisters, well-wishers, Parents of the Students, Villagers witnessed the great event.

Golden Jubilee of Shanthi Convent Shanthipura

November 17, is the day to remember as Sisters of Shanthi Convent Celebrate the fifty years of their presence in Shanthipura. Rt Rev. Dr K A William, Bishop of Mysuru solemnised the Holy Eucharist along with other Concelebrants. Rev Sr Susheela Sequeira, Superior General and her team, Rev Sr Apoline Cordeiro, Provincial Superior and her team, Sisters of the Province, well- wishers and parishioners joined the Sisters of Shanthipura to thank God for His continuous blessings and his presence with the Sisters for past fifty years. The Holy Eucharist was followed by the felicitation programme. During felicitation programme past Superiors of the Shanthi Convent were honoured the thanked for their strenuous work in Shanthipura. Rt Rev Dr K A William, Bishop of Mysuru appreciated the thanked the Sisters for their selfless service in remote village Shanthipura. Rev Sr Susheela Sequiera, Superior General thanked all the Sisters those worked in Shanthipura and wished them well. The Celebration ended with an agape meal.

Inauguration of St Clare’s New Convent Building, Suntikoppa

November 8, was a red-letter day to the Sisters of Suntikoppa Convent as they had the inauguration and blessing of the new Convent Building. Rt Rev. Dr K A William, the Bishop of Mysuru solemnised the Holy Eucharist along with other concelebrant and blessed the New Convent Building. It was inaugurated by Rev Sr Apoline Cordeiro the Provincial Superior. The Plaque was unveiled by Rev Sr Lydia Serrao Councillor General. This was followed by the felicitation Programme. Provincial Councillors, Parishioners and the Zonal Sisters were present for the programme.

Inter Novitiate Programme

The Inter Novitiate programme was held in Maria Niketan Novitiate, Bogadi, from 10 September to 8 October 2018. Novices from Somarpann Novitiate Mangalore Province joined the Novices of Mysore Province. The various resource persons gave classes on different topics such as Scripture, Catechesis Missiology, patron saints St. Angela Merici and St. Francis of Assisi, Human rights and the protection of children from sexual offences (Pocso Act) and World Religion. Along with the classes they also had the opportunities to attend the seminar and the outing. It was a great time for the Novices to share their experience and meet their companions.

Annual Superior’s Meet

The Ursuline Franciscan Congregation (UFS) of Mysore Province hosted the Annual Superiors’ Meet along with Pre-Chapter study for 2-days on 14 & 15, July 2018 at Maria Niketan, Bogadi.  We collectively reflected on the theme of the forthcoming Province Chapter 2018 ‘UFS Commissioned to launch into the deep’  The meeting began with a prayer based on the theme and Rev Sr Apoline Cordeiro, Provincial Superior in her message emphasized on collective religious life and their strategic intervention of institutional and non-institutional activities with a Prophetic  stance can shed light to the unjust structures, to people who walk in darkness and indulge into inhuman and cruel acts to helpless poor people, women and children.  This approach requires intelligent, well informed, courageous, faith filled, spirit led, risk taking religious force with collaborative and networking approach.  The gathering consisted of over 100 participants mainly Superiors, Heads of the Institutions, Economers and Formators.  Subsequently two such other gatherings were called for the same purpose.  The group participated in the discussions actively and contributed their suggestions.  

Temporary Profession

Temporary profession of five second year novices namely Anisha Benjamine Gonsalves, Josephin Mary, Moksha Rakini, Prathima D Souza and Sherin Salma was held at Maria Niketan Chapel, Bogadi. Most Rev Dr Thomas A Vazhapilly Bishop Emeritus presided over the Eucharist. Rev Fr Stany D Almeida preached a befitting sermon on this occasion. The five Sisters pronounced their vows in the presence of Rev Sr Apoline Cordeiro, Provincial Superior. Priests, Brothers, Sisters, parents of the Sisters joined them in praying.

Perpetual Profession

Five Sisters of Mysore Province made their Perpetual Profession on 24 April 2018 at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia, Mangaluru. The Solemn Eucharist was officiated by Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza, Bishop of Mangaluru. Srs Nevita Mareena Castelino, Milagrin Fernandes, Priya Thoras, Shanthi Priya Santhis and Silvyn Shalita Lobo pronounced their vows in the presence of Rev Sr Susheela Sequeira, the Superior General. Family members of the Sisters, Priests, Sisters and well-wishers joined the Sisters in praying for them.

Domestic Workers Get -Together

Domestic Workers Get together was organized on March 15 at St Joseph's Cathedral campus, Mysuru.

The gathering began with a meaningful prayer service. Domestic helpers of St Mary's Convent H.D. Kote welcomed the gathering with a beautiful welcome dance.  The program was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, participants and one of the UFLA members. As the president of the programme Rev. Sr Apoline Cordeiro addressed the participants by acknowledging the service rendered by them in the communities. She attributed call for service to God and requested all the participants to be thankful to God for every little work that each one does.  She appreciated them for supporting the Sisters by their loving service in order to enable the Sisters to be committed for the religious obligations and service.

Rev. Fr. NT Joseph, Parish Priest of Cathedral Church, Mysuru addressed the participants and appreciated the organizers for bringing together the supportive staff. He encouraged the participants saying that every little work done in love will not go unrewarded by God.

An ice breaking session was conducted for a free mixture of the group. Dignity of Labor, a session was given by Sr Felcy D Cunha in which she explained to the participants the credibility of helpers in the community by analyzing the dignity and contribution of labourers in the progress of the society.  She also connected it with the life of Jesus for he assisted his foster father in a carpentry work before he began his public ministry.

After the lunch a pilgrimage was organized to St Antony’s Shrine, Dornahalli. It was indeed a memorable day to all the supportive staff.

The 50 years of Religious Profession of Rev Srs Olinda Sequeira, Carmelita Monteiro, Godwin D Cunha, Jeswina Serrao, Mildred Crasta and Leonilla Pinto was celebrated with a great joy by the Sisters of Mysore Province on 12 April 2018 at Bogadi.  Most Rev Dr K A William, Bishop of Mysuru presided over the Eucharist along with Rev Fr Dominic Vas, CRI president and many other concelebrants.  After the meaningful Eucharist the Golden jubilarians were felicitated. Rev Sr Apoline Cordeiro, Provincial Superior presided over the felicitation programme. The Superiors of the Jubilarians read the citation and after which they were honoured for the selfless service and fruitful religious life. Rev Sr Apoline Cordeiro in her presidential speech she appreciated and thanked each Jubilarians. Rev Sr Juliana Pinto the Councillor General wished the Jubilarians thanked for their selfless service to the Church and the Congregation. They are indeed a blessing to the congregation she affirmed. Most Rev Dr K A William, Bishop of Mysuru appreciated the Sisters for the pastoral ministry that they carry on especially in remote places and encouraged them to continue the same with great zeal and enthusiasm. Thereafter, all joined in the agape meal. The family members of Jubilarians, Religious Sisters and Priests witnessed the great event.
